HTC Merge Update to 2.3 Gingerbread

Great news Mergers we will be releasing the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in the next couple of days. To update to the new software press menu go to settings, about phone, and software update. What’s different about this update? Take a look

On the home screen in the bottom corners instead of the arrow on the bottom left side there are blocks. On the bottom right of the screen instead of the add icon there is a personalize icon.

When on the home screen and the menu button on the bottom of the device is pressed there is a new menu bar with more features.

In the Menu screen at the bottom there are two other icons, Frequent and Downloaded

On the bottom of the menu when the star is pressed the most frequent applications used are brought up

On the bottom of the menu when the down arrow is selected that will show the downloaded applications

In the Menu screen instead of a smooth scrolling through the apps, the apps are scrolled through in blocks.

There are 2 different way s to access this screen. From the Home Screen if Personalize is selected in the bottom right corner this screen will come up. The second way is to add a widget and this screen will also pop up. This is a whole new way to personalize the home screen and to add widgets.

In the notification bar there are two different tabs instead of one

In the notification bar the Quick Settings allows fast access to some of the most frequent settings

When the power button is held down there is a new feature called restart that closes all apps and resets the phone.

HTC gives you control of the look and feel of your android device with their “UI” or “user interface” on Android.

Through the HTC Sense “Hub,”  you can download wallpapers, sounds and “skins” to personalize your phone.  Also, HTC’s widgets — like their famous clock/weather widget — are second to none.  I’ve talked to android fans who started on the hero or desire and we’re sad to learn the Motorola and Samsung did not come with the same widgets as the HTC phones and were able to find some “knock offs” on the android market… But, alas… it wasn’t the same user experience.

Here, Jon and I go through their favorite features of the HTC Merge.

UPDATE to 2.3 coming SOON!

HTC, Motorola and Samsung all have different Android “user interfaces.”

They have each added a “layer” or “user interface” that gives users of their Android phones a different experience.

Here, Alex walks through the HTC Merge, the Motorola Milestone X and the Samsung Showcase i500… each running Android 2.3 gingerbread.
